The Role

Under the general supervision of the RN and/or Physician, the Licensed Practical Nurse-LPN will support providers in the provision of care including recording vital signs, discussing chief health concerns, performing testing, and assisting with procedures and documentation.  Assesses, plans, evaluates, and delivers nursing care in collaboration with RN and/or Physician. This work is carried out in support of the mission and goals of Samaritan Daytop Village.

Responsibilities

What You Will Do

  • Assists with patient care including checking vital signs, blood pressure, pulse rate, breathing, temperature, and weight, discussing chief health concerns, administering injections, and performing tests.
  • Takes patient’s medical history, all pretreatment formalities, and enters data in the computer system.
  • Follows orders of a physician and registered nurse in providing care.
  • Documents all care given to patients in thorough detail.
  • Handles proper charting, documentation, and maintenance of patient's medical records.
  • Check, clean, and dresses wounds.
  • Reinforces instructions given to patients by RN or Physician.
  • Notifies RN or Physician of significant findings or changes in patient’s physical or mental condition.

Qualifications

 

Who You Will Be

  • A Graduate of a formal Technical or Vocational LPN Program with a High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • NYS LPN licensure.
  • BLS certification.
  • Someone with at least One (1) year experience as an LPN working with clients with Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and/or Serious Mental Illness (SMI).
  • Available to work a flexible schedule as needed in response to participant and staff needs.
  • Computer literacy including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and EMR.
  • Ability to put patients at ease and explain physician’s instructions.
  • Ability to multi-task with excellent organizational skills.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Team player and ability to work independently.
