Salary: $42,000-$45,000

The Role


Under general direction, The Intake Counselor will provide screening/intake services to program applicants. In addition, this position develops preliminary determinations of an applicant’s eligibility for a Samaritan Daytop Village treatment program and facilitates the admissions process for eligible individuals. The Intake Counselor is responsible for contributing to the day-to-day effective operation of the unit, ensures that all screenings and admissions are conducted according to agency policy and procedures and provides as needed coverage/assistance to staff and carries a small caseload as appropriate and necessary.  This work is done in support of the mission and goals of Samaritan Daytop Village.

Responsibilities


What You Will Do


  • Conducts screening/intake interviews towards determining appropriateness of applicants seeking program admission.
  • Determines a level of care recommendation in accordance with agency eligibility criteria for supervisory review.
  • Enters all applicant screening/post- screening follow-up contacts into the agency’s electronic database.
  • Ensures that all required screening/intake or admission documentation are completed and processed as per agency policy.
  • Provides appropriate referrals to applicants needing crisis or other immediate community-based referrals.
  • Provides post-screening contact/follow-up to assigned applicants on the eligibility/wait list to facilitate/ expedite their timely program admission or any needed referrals.
  • Provides monthly analysis of admissions regarding census and referral sources.
  • Provides outreach and educational services to the local community, schools, groups and agencies as necessary.
  • Conducts psycho-educational lectures and other therapeutic groups related to chemical dependency.
  • Functions as a liaison/advocate to patients’ families, legal authorities/representatives and/or other community-based agencies.

Qualifications


Who You Will Be


  • High School Diploma or GED
  • OASAS CASAC-T or CASAC Certification
  • At least One (1) year experience conducting Substance Use screenings/intake or substance abuse counseling preferably within a Medication Assisted Program.
  • Good working knowledge of community social service resources.
  • Ability to articulate in a clear and concise manner the agency’s eligibility criterion and its treatment continuum of care.
  • Knowledge of and experience working with persons with co-occurring disorders.
  • Knowledge of Client Rights.
  • Knowledge of Code of Ethics.
  • Computer literacy including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and EHR.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
