The Role


The HR Benefits Specialist is an integral part of the Benefits team. The role is responsible for administering and providing timely advice and clarity on health and retirement programs, including medical, dental, life, AD&D, FMLA, disability, workers’ compensation, voluntary benefits, HRA, FSA, commuter benefits, 401K, and 403B programs in a customer centric manner, in accordance with plan terms, applicable legislation, and legal compliance. Also responsible for coordinating and administering leave requests, particularly those arising under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), statutory leave regulations, short-term or long-term disability plans, and workers’ compensation policies.

Responsibilities


What You Will Do


  • Serves as a subject matter expert for the leave, workers’ compensation, and benefits programs in alignment and under the general direction and guidance of HR leadership.
  • Interprets and administers leave programs and policies in accordance with the applicable federal and state employment laws (FMLA, ADA, USERRA, Pregnancy Discrimination Act, etc.).
  • Ensures all benefit plans are administered correctly and efficiently, providing guidance and direction to employees, managers, liaising with insurance carriers and consultants.
  • Responsible for updating and maintaining HRIS system and other systems used in the organization as it pertains to benefits and medical leaves.
  •  Coordinates annual Open Enrollment meetings and Health Fairs in partnership with Director, HR Operations.
  • Prepares relevant benefit and medical leave reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends, inclusive of monthly invoice reconciliation.

Qualifications


Who You Will Be


  • Associate’s degree in human resources or related field with three+ (3+) years of experience; OR bachelor’s degree in human resources with two+ (2) + years of progressive experience in benefits administration and leaves management.
  • In depth knowledge of the leave requirements and legal protections afforded by FMLA, ADA, and other applicable laws. 
  • Computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ADP HRIS Software.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interact effectively with employees, management, external vendors, and maintain confidentiality with sensitive information.
