The Role


Under the general direction of the Director of Nursing and Medical Director, the ADON is responsible for the overall management of nursing staff employed in the Residential division. Management responsibilities include assuming authority, responsibility, and accountability for the delivery of nursing services in the division. Provides direct supervision of nursing staff and coordinates client medical care in order to ensure the delivery of timely, appropriate, and a high caliber quality of care. Collaborates with other departments, medical professionals, consultants, organizations, and advocacy groups to develop, support, and coordinate care, and related administrative functions and to represent the interests of the division. This work is carried out in support of the mission and goals of Samaritan Daytop Village

Responsibilities


What You Will Do


  • Leads subordinate nursing staff in delivering excellent care to clients and offers quality support to medical staff.
  • Monitors completion of medical support and nursing staff assignments, identifies lags in daily flow, and intervenes as necessary to improve efficiency. Maintains and/or improves levels of productivity set by administration and needs of clients.
  • Interviews, hires, fires, disciplines, provides in-service orientation, trains, and completes competency evaluations for regional nursing staff.
  • Supervises care provided by nursing staff (RNs and LPNs) to ensure conformance with regulations, current competency, and best practice standards.
  • Provides medication administration training and competency evaluation for agency’s Health Care Coordinators. Instructs and evaluates the competency of nursing staff and Health Care Coordinators.
  • Communicates and interprets policies and procedures to nursing staff and monitors staff practices and implementation.
  • Provides direct client care as needed.
  • Assists physicians by identifying, reporting, and addressing changes in client’s health status.
  • Communicate daily with clinical staff to identify client needs so that they can be incorporated into daily work schedules.
  • Provides “on-call” coverage, as required, and assigns other nursing staff to the “on-call” schedule to ensure 24-hour coverage.
  • Supervises staff to ensure compliance with agency policies and procedures for client record documentation and billing information management.
  • Ensures the integrity, proper organization, completeness, and confidentiality of the client record in accordance with agency policy and procedure.
  • Ensures dispensing, administration, and control of all Controlled Substances in compliance with all State and Federal laws/regulations and accreditation organization standards.
  • Maintains/oversees inventory and dispensing of Controlled Substances. Reports discrepancies internally and externally as per state law/regulation.
  • Participates in various agency committees as needed
  • Facilitates positive relationships between medical, clinical, and management staff as well as external medical providers and consultants.
  • Attends case conferences and other meetings as scheduled.
  • Keeps abreast of changes in the field.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Who You Will Be


  • NYS RN licensure
  • BLS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN)
  • Minimum three (3) years of supervisory nursing experience, a minimum of which must include 3 years of hospital, substance abuse, or other behavior healthcare organization supervisory nursing experience.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of demonstrated clinical experience in substance use and/or mental health treatment.
  • Available to work a flexible schedule as needed in response to participant and staff needs.
  • Computer literacy including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and EMR.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Team player and ability to work independently.
