The Role


Under the supervision of the Physician, the Physician Assistant is responsible for delivering and providing a variety of functions necessary for admissions, treatment, assessment, diagnosis, and evaluation for opiate dependent adults in methadone maintenance treatment program.  This work is carried out in support of the mission and goals of Samaritan Daytop Village.

Responsibilities


What You Will Do


  • Provides direct patient care by identifying, reporting and addressing changes in the patient’s health status.
  • Performs initial and annual physical examinations and takes patient health histories.
  • Develops and initiates plan of care for patients and delivers on-going patient care based on this plan in an outpatient facility.
  • Orders and interprets routine laboratory and test results.
  • Writes prescription and medication orders in compliance with New York State Rules and Regulations governing the performance of Physician Assistant.
  • Performs specific procedures, including but not necessarily limited to: administering immunization, injections, drawing blood specimens for testing, urinalysis, PPD placements, and other routine tests.
  • Provides appropriate medical referrals for consultation and special testing to ensure optimum quality of patient care.
  • Communicates daily with Nursing and other clinical staff and care providers to identify client needs so that they can be incorporated into the daily work schedule.
  • Ensures the integrity, proper organization, completeness and confidentiality of the patient record in accordance with agency policy and procedure.

Qualifications


Who You Will Be


  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program culminating in a Two-year academic degree of an Associate’s OR a Four-year Degree-Bachelor’s.
  • At least One (1) year experience in addiction medicine or substance use treatment programs.
  • Available to work a flexible schedule and be able to work all three shifts as needed in response to participant and staff needs.
  • Knowledgeable about federal and state regulations governing medical/clinical treatment in substance use treatment programs.
  • Ability to demonstrate sensitivity to patients with a variety of psycho social issues.
  • Familiarity with OASAS and DOH regulation.
  • Ability to work with a medical and clinical interdisciplinary staff to ensure appropriate management of clients.
  • Computer literacy including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and EMR.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, analytical, presentation and organizational skills.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Team player and ability to work independently.
