The Role


Under general direction, the Mental Health Specialist is responsible for providing counseling, group therapy, family therapy and casework services to individuals and families. Assesses patient’s mental status through interviews and observations and then develops treatment plans, provide therapy or makes referrals to appropriate services. This work is carried out in support of the mission and goals of Samaritan Daytop Village.

Responsibilities


What You Will Do


  • Works with clients and families to determine goals for treatment.
  • Solicits family information, observations and concerns.
  • Interviews, observes and develops treatment plans for patients.
  • Implements, goals, policies and activities designed to meet program objectives.
  • Conducts individual and group therapy sessions for clients/families with mental illness, emotional, family dynamic concerns and substance abuse problems.
  • Provides referrals to appropriate mental health resources.
  • Monitors client’s treatment progress and keeps track of their mental status.
  • Consults with other mental health professionals to provided effective courses of treatment.
  • Provides crisis intervention services to patients who are in danger to themselves and others.
  • Keeps accurate records of clients records and treatment provided.

Qualifications


Who You Will Be


  • Master’s Degree in Social Work or Mental Health Counseling.
  • At least One-Two years demonstrated clinical experience in substance use and/or mental health treatment for designated programs based on needs of the facility.
  • Computer literacy including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and EHR.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
