Porter
Samaritan Daytop Village operates over 60 facilities across NYC, Long Island, and the Lower Hudson Valley, providing a wide range of human services to more than 38,000 New Yorkers annually. The Porter is responsible for performing daily cleaning tasks—such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, and disinfecting—at a designated facility, ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for clients and staff.
Take initiative in maintaining a clean and orderly environment throughout the facility including common areas, restrooms, offices, and entrances
Perform regular and detailed floor care including sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and spot-cleaning, making use of a side-by-side stripping machine and high-speed buffing machine, while giving special attention to preserving the finish on vinyl flooring
Proactively identify and address cleaning needs to uphold sanitation and safety standards
Clean and disinfect bathrooms and high-touch surfaces in line with established hygiene protocols
Remove trash and debris from both indoor and outdoor areas and clearing snow from the front exterior of the building when necessary
Use cleaning equipment and supplies properly and ensure they are maintained in good working condition
Follow all safety guidelines including the use of protective gear and approved cleaning agents
At least six (6) months of experience in custodial or related work
Familiarity with cleaning procedures, methods, and equipment
Experience with floor care preferred, including maintaining vinyl flooring using appropriate machines and chemicals to preserve finishes
Knowledge of operating stripping and buffing machines
Ability to follow safety protocols when handling cleaning supplies and tools
Understanding of chemical safety and ability to adhere to Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
Willingness to respond to maintenance and flood emergencies as needed
A strong sense of responsibility and pride in creating clean, safe, and comfortable spaces for others
Ability to work well independently and as part of a team, with clear and respectful communication
Openness to learning new skills, receiving feedback, and adapting to evolving needs within the facility
Basic computer skills to support communication with supervisors or headquarters, such as submitting reports or receiving updates
Additional Information
This is a full-time non-exempt role with an hourly rate of $25.27 (annualized at 35 hours a week to $46,000) with a full benefits package. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, 25 days of paid time off, access to a retirement account with an employer to match, and tuition reimbursement.
This role is located in Harlem, NY and has a schedule of Tuesday-Saturday, 8am-4pm.
