The Role


Under general direction, the Senior Substance Use Counselor will assist in the supervision of Counselors in scheduling all patients into treatment activities, assist with assignment of caseloads; provides technical and training assistance to counselors on EHR while managing a caseload. This work is carried out in support of the mission and goals of Samaritan Daytop Village.

Responsibilities


What You Will Do


  • Manages a caseload, delivering all treatment components to assigned patients; develops and revises individual treatment plans, assesses patient progress, provides individual and group counseling, assigns job functions, and facilitates peer support groups in consultation with the Program Director and the management team.
  • Assists in supervision of Counselors in scheduling all patients into treatment activities.
  • Provides input for annual counselor performance evaluations for the Program Director’s review.
  • Assists in training of Counselors on the EHR and communicate any new changes in policies and procedures in consultation with the Program Director and management team.
  • Serves as a “Super-User” to all Counselors on AVATAR.
  • Utilizes a strengths-based and trauma-informed approach to work collaboratively with clients and internal and external treatment team members to help support clients in their treatment and recovery.
  • Provides clinical consultation to referral resources, Mentors, family members, and others to help support clients in their recovery.
  • Based on assessments, refers to appropriate programs and agencies in an effort to help clients access the right level of care to best meet their treatment needs.
  • Participates in case conferences to assess patient progress, where needed; makes recommendation for changes in treatment planning and advancement to the next treatment level.

Qualifications


Who You Will Be


  • Associate’s Degree in Human Services.
  • CASAC Level 2 Certification, CASAC Advanced Counselor or CASAC Master Counselor or NYSED Qualified Health Professional (QHP) status such as (LMSW-LP, MHC-LP, LMSW, LMHC or LCSW Required
  • Minimum Five-Seven (5-7) years related experience working with clients with Substance Use Disorders (SUD).
  • Ability to take on additional caseload or provide extra coverage as needed based on needs of the program.
  • Knowledge and/or training in Trauma Informed Care and various organizational treatment.
  • Knowledge of and experience working with persons with co-occurring disorders.
  • Knowledge of the laws regarding personnel and client information.
  • Knowledge of Client Rights and Code of Ethics.
  • Computer literacy including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and EMR.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
