The Role


Under general supervision, the custodian is responsible for cleaning assigned areas of the facility and ensuring that the physical plant is maintained in proper sanitary condition. This work is carried out in support of the mission and goals of Samaritan Daytop Village.

Responsibilities

 


What You Will Do


  • Cleans assigned areas of the facility according to instructions daily.
  • Dust furniture and shelves using feather dusters, clean dry rags, dust treatment liquid, and dust mops with heads that can be laundered.
  • Sweep areas inside and outside of the facility. Ensures that all debris is collected and placed into plastic trash bags.
  • Scrubs and spot clean vinyl tile floors in the facility, being careful not to remove the wax finish.
  • Spot cleans facility carpets and upholstery.
  • Damp mops and wet-mop floors, including stairs, ensuring that mops and mop pails are clean before using them.
  • Disinfects shower walls, bathtubs, basins, vanities, and bathroom floors.
  • Disinfect commodes and urinals while strictly adhering to mandatory codes of dress (rubber gloves, etc.) and using prescribed cleaners and disinfectants only.
  • Executes “garbage runs” throughout the facility and empties garbage pails, making sure that recycling procedures are complied with.
  • Washes windows and mirrors using white vinegar, newspapers, and other equipment as directed.
  • Vacuum floors and upholstery.
  • Removes gum and/or other adhesives from floors and walkways.
  • Polishes furniture with approved agents only.
  • Performs other duties as requested.

Qualifications


Who You Will Be


  • Six (6) months of custodial-related work experience.
  • Ability to adhere to safety guidelines for working with cleaning supplies and equipment.
  • Working knowledge of cleaning procedures and techniques.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Must be organized, energetic, detail-oriented, ability to analyze information and multi-task, prioritize and work efficiently.
